Javea Overview

Javea, also known as Xàbia (in Valencian), was once a small fishing village and has now become a flourishing town that is a very popular tourist destination and a place to live for both Spanish and foreigners. Due to its popularity, the cost of living is higher than most places on the Costa Blanca.

The town is split into 3 areas; the Old Town of Javea (Xàbia Pueblo), the Port of Javea (Xàbia Puerto) and Javea Beach (Playa Arenal).

Javea enjoys a lovely sunny climate all year round. The warmest month is August, with an average maximum temperature of around 30ºC. The coldest month of December, has an average high temperature of around 15ºC.

Things to do in Javea

Water Sports & Activities

The lovely calm and regularly warm waters, make a great spot for water activities. You can pretty much find the majority of water activities here including; Sailing, Diving, Paddle Boarding, Kayaking, Windsurfing, Jetski/Motor Boat.

Walk around the Old Town (Xàbia Pueblo)

The picturesque narrow streets of the old town are made with Tosca sandstone. Take in the Gothic buildings including San Bartolome Church, which was built back in the 15th century. There is a lovely market every Thursday where you can buy fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and meat. You can also find other things such as clothing, shoes and other household items.

Visit the Viewpoints of Javea (Miradores de Javea)

There are 15 beautiful viewpoints in and around Javea. Here is the list; Mirador El Molins, Mirador de Cap de Sant Antoni, Mirador Punta del Arenal, Mirador Séquia de la Nória, Mirador Cala Blanca, Mirador Caletes, Mirador La Creu del Portitxol, Mirador L’Illa, Mirador La Falzia, Mirador Cap Negre, Mirador Cap de la Nao, Mirador Pesqueres, Mirador Ambolo, Mirador Castell de la Granadella, Mirador Granadella.

Hike Montgo Mountain

This mountain watches over Javea and provides a lovely backdrop to the town. It is located in Montgò Mountain National Park, which has a great variety of flora and fauna. The views from the top of the mountain are magnificent and well worth the effort. On clear days you can even see as far as Ibiza. The park is protected due to some important archaeological findings, such as cave paintings, stone age items and Roman artifacts.

Visit Javea Port

This beautiful port is still a working fishing port, so you can see fishing boats next to luxury boats here. There is a promenade with restaurants and stunning views of Javea’s bay.

Visit Arenal Beach (Playa del Arenal)

This is Javea’s main beach which is a blue flag beach with sand. The beach is surrounded with many bars and restaurants where you can find a good variety of food.

Transport in Javea

Public transport in Javea is not very frequent. There are only buses that go within the town normally at a rate of 1 per hour.

There is no train station in Javea. The nearest train stations are Denia (10km approx) or Gata de Gorgos (10km approx).
