Altea Overview

Altea is located on the coast of the Costa Blanca North 15 kilometers north of Benidorm. Altea is a charming town, with a mix of beautiful beaches, hills and is surrounded by mountains. The old part of the town is located in the hillside and is filled with idyllic cobbled streets and lined with traditional white houses.

Altea has a lovely sunny climate all year round. The warmest month is August, with an average maximum temperature of around 30ºC. The coldest month of December, has an average high temperature of around 15ºC.

Things to do in Altea

Walk around the Old Town

Walking around the beautiful streets of the old town never gets boring. They are full of quaint little boutique shops, cafes and restaurants. Just off of the plaza at the top of the town, you can take in the breathtaking view of Altea and its beaches.

Visit Altea Market

The Tuesday market in Altea, is one of the largest markets in the Costa Blanca and you can find some great bargains here. They sell a variety of things like; jewellery, leather goods, shoes, ceramics, clothes and traditional Spanish nougat.

Have a drink and some food on Altea promenade

The promenade is full of restaurants and bars where you can sit and enjoy with friends and family, whilst taking in the beautiful sea view.

Hiking

There are plenty of places to walk in and around Altea for the seasoned and the moderate hiker.

Water Sports

The lovely calm and regularly warm waters, make a great spot for water sports. Typical water sports available in Altea are Jet Skiing, Paddle Boarding, Sailing, Diving, Kayaking and more. The main water sports club in Altea is Club Nautico Altea.

Transport in Altea

Public transport in Altea is very efficient within the town and outside of the town. 

  • Bus – There are buses that go to Alicante, Benidorm, Calpe, Javea, Alfaz del Pi, La Nucia, Polop, Valencia and more.
  • Tram – there is a tram station located by the main road in Altea and this takes you up as far as Denia on the Costa Blanca North and south as far as Alicante. 

Altea is conveniently located on the main national road (N-332). The N-332 runs for 386km from Cartagena to Valencia. The road can get congested, especially in the summer, as a lot of the way it is single carriageway. The AP-7 highway is only located about 5km away and this road takes you along the meditaranean coast, from the border of France and Spain to Vera in the Almeria province in the south.
